STRATEGIC PLAN AND GOALS: Goals of the Vermont Space Grant Consortium include
promoting the enhancement of Vermont's STEM educational
base, encouraging Vermont students to consider careers in
scientific and technical fields, increasing Vermont's
aerospace-related research infrastructure, and mounting
programs that connect Vermont's citizens at all levels to
NASA. The following methods will be used to achieve these
goals in the areas of education, research, and public
outreach:
Education
Hold a yearly competition to award merit-based VSGC
Undergraduate Scholarships to Vermont students in STEM
disciplines attending
Vermont academic institutions.
Fund special scholarships for Vermont students accepted at
a NASA Academy or other NASA competitive program.
Fund competitive Undergraduate Program Proposals to
encourage
new degree programs, curriculum development, and new courses
in
aerospace disciplines at Vermont's academic institutions.
Fund student teams mentored by VSGC-associated faculty
that
participate in programs sponsored by NASA or other
Space Grant
consortia.
Participate in the activities of the Vermont-NASA
Educational
Cooperative (VNEC).
●
Work through VSGC affiliates to address K-12 issues, and
coordinate initiatives with NASA's Aerospace Education
Specialist for Vermont.
Research
Fund competitive proposals for mentored undergraduate
research
projects in NASA-related areas.
Provide funding to encourage faculty research and mentored
undergraduate summer research in NASA-related disciplines
at
Vermont's primarily undergraduate academic
institutions.
Outreach
● Fund competitive proposals from affiliates and other
Vermont
organizations for science communication projects.
● Display an exhibit at appropriate meetings and conferences
across the state that highlights VSGC activities and NASA
programs. ●
Participate in the activities of the Vermont Civil Air
Patrol and
continue to be involved in state policy issues
associated with civil
aviation.
● Hold an annual Awards Night to honor VSGC Scholars and
Fellows
and showcase VSGC and NASA-related projects and
activities in Vermont.
Invitees will include students,
their parents and teachers, representatives of
all VSGC
affiliates, state government officials, and a NASA
representative.
